If you are tired of relying on eyeglasses to see correctly, you can consider wearing contact lenses. Contacts provide benefits that you cannot get from eyeglasses. They are natural looking, easy to use, and more convenient for active people. If you are thinking about getting contacts, you will need to schedule a contact lens exam. At Incredible Eye Care Optometry, APC in Torrance, CA, we provide contact lens exams. This exam is different than an eye exam. Contact lens exams determine if you are a good candidate for contact lenses. Here is what to expect at your appointment.
Determine Your Contact Lens Prescription
Your contact lens prescription will be different than your eyeglass prescription. Contacts sit directly on your cornea and eyeglass lenses sit about an inch from your eyes. Therefore, the two prescriptions will be different. Our optometrist will also measure your eyes to determine what size lenses you need to fit your eyes correctly.
Discuss Your Lifestyle
Our eye doctor will want to know a bit about your lifestyle so we can determine which type of lenses will be best for you. There are several types of lenses available.
- Daily lenses are worn once and thrown away.
- Weekly lenses are thrown away once a week.
- Bi-weekly lenses are thrown away every two weeks.
- Monthly lenses are thrown away once a month.
- Extended wear lenses are worn for 30 days straight without needing to remove them. When you do, you will put in a fresh pair.
When our eye doctor knows a bit about your level of activity and your lifestyle, we can select the lenses that will be best for you.
Contact Lens Teaching
Our optometry expert will give you a pair of trial lenses to ensure that you can see clearly and that they are comfortable before you order your supply. Before you can wear your trial lenses at home, you will need to sit down with our eye doctor for a teaching. You will learn to insert the lenses, remove them, and how to properly care for them.
Schedule Your Follow-up
Before you leave the office, you will schedule your follow-up appointment. During this visit, our optometrist will check your vision while you are wearing the contacts and ensure they are comfortable. If the contacts are working well, you can order your supply. If not, our eye doctor will make the necessary changes to provide better vision or a better fit.
